Between the Vancouver Film Festival and spending a lot of time on planes, I watched and read a lot this month! It’s been a great month for movies, series, and books.
πΊ Welcome to Wrexham Season 1 - what a fantastic sports documentary. I’ve been a football β½ fan for a few years now, and it’s great to see behind the scenes at a Welsh club. Rob and Ryan are great too! A+
π₯ The Banshees of Inisherin - I love all of Martin McDonagh’s films, and this is no exception! Amazing to have Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson back together again. A
π₯ The Whale - What a ride. Darren Aronofsky is hit or miss with me, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. A-
π₯ Do Revenge - The absolute perfect film for watching while stuck on a plane for 5 hours. Ridiculous, over the top, and so much fun. A+
πΊ Ramy Season 3 - I love to keep getting to come back to this universe and see how Ramy grows and develops over time. It’s great. A-
π₯ Emily (2022) - I went into this knowing nothing about Emily BrontΓ«, and I left knowing slightly more. I am sure a hardcore fan would have gotten more out of this. B-
π₯ Bullet Train - A mediocre action movie. Lots of potential with its great cast and idea. C
π The Golden Enclaves (The Scholomance, #3) by Naomi Novik - A solid finale to the trilogy. Excited to see what Naomi Novik writes next. I love all her work. A
πΊ Bad Sisters - I’ve got mixed feelings on this one. Every episode felt different, and I really swung between loving it and putting off watching it. Not for everyone. B
π The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson - I’m a Sanderson addict, so I’m always excited when I find something of his that I’ve missed. Great little novella. A-
π₯ The King’s Jester - I love Hasan Minhaj and thoroughly enjoyed the intimacy of this new standup special. One of my favorite new specials I’ve watched all year. A
π₯ Bodies Bodies Bodies - I went into this with high hopes but was underwhelmed. Great premise and a fun cast, but it could have been better. B
π Alex Verus Series by Benedict Jacka, Books 1 to 5 - I’ve been devouring this series this month and absolutely loving it. It’s a great read in a fun and compelling universe. A
πΊ House of the Dragon - I went in with no expectations after the last few seasons of Game of Thrones. Wow, was I blown away. I didn’t think I wanted more from the universe, but I loved it! A+
πΊ The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - A bit of a letdown. I had high hopes, but it just never clicked for me. Beautiful, but the writing was dry, and I still don’t care about the characters. House of the Dragon being so well done ruined it for me. B
π₯ Clerks Trilogy - the first Clerks was one of the pivotal films for me to get excited about films. With the 3rd film coming out, it was time to revisit them all. Fun to reminisce in that universe. A
πΊ Reboot (2022) - pretty decent sitcom! I’ve always loved shows that are about making other shows and movies. It’s not as good as Episodes (2011), but still fun. B
πΊ Brassic Season 4 - I’m a big fan of British comedy shows! Joe Gilgun was amazing in Misfits and is even better in Brassic. It’s roamed a lot as a show over its four seasons, but I’ve enjoyed all of them. A-
