Media Diet: May 2025

After all of the travel and starting new TV series in April, May is when I finished them all! Not listed are a few books that I started and just could not make it through.

📺 1883 Season 1 - I finally started exploring the Yellowstone universe of shows after having multiple co-workers encouraging me to watch them, my favorite of the shows in the universe. (A)

📺 The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 - What a perfect way to end the series. My second favorite of the Danny McBride series, right after Eastbound & Down. I’m glad it allowed the four seasons to unfold as they did. (A)

📺 Etoile Season 1 - A fun Amy Sherman-Palladino TV show that doesn’t live up to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel or her other series. Unfortunately, it was cancelled after the first season. I would have liked to see where it could have gone next season. (B)

📺 Andor Season 2 - Solidifying itself as my second favorite piece of Star Wars content, right after the original series. Must watch TV if you’re even remotely a Star Wars fan. (A+)

🎥 Rogue One (Rewatch) - The biggest issue with Andor is how it makes Rogue One pale in comparison with it. Just doesn’t hold up for me the same way now. (B)

🎥 Warfare - My favorite war movie I’ve seen in at least a decade. Raw and unfiltered. Does not glamorize war at all. (A+)

📚 Antimatter Blues by Edward Ashton - Does not live up to the original Mickey7. Just read the first book and end with it. (B-)

📺 The Residence Season 1 - An interesting twist on the traditional detective show. Worth a watch if you’re a fan of the genre. (A-)

📺 The Rookie Season 7 - The show feels very stale this season—lots of boring plotlines and convoluted characters. (C+)

📺 The Studio Season 1 - If you have an interest in Hollywood and the creation of films, it’s a must-watch show. (A)

📺 The Last of Us Season 2 - This season may be getting a lot of hate from fans, but I still enjoyed it! (A-)

📺 The Rehearsal Season 2 - Nathan Fielder is a comedy genius. Just watch it. (A+)

📺 Hacks Season 4 - Somehow, this show keeps being as good season after season. (A)

📺 1923 Season 1 + 2 - Not as good as 1883 was, but still a solid two-season arc. Feels like there were a few characters who could have been dropped to make it tighter. (A-)

📚 My Name Is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout - I loved the Oliver Kittridge books and wanted to give another one of Strout’s books a try. It was good, but didn’t blow me away in the same way. (B+)

🎥 Another Simple Favor - Light, fluffy, and fun. (B+)
