Media Diet: June 2025

For the first time in months, I spent more than half the month at home in Vancouver! It was great to spend time with friends, play a lot of Pickleball, and I started getting into bouldering.

🎥 Mountainhead - A satire that hits just a bit too close to home for our current world. The cast is fantastic. Worth a watch! (A-)

📚 Seekers in the Void by Glynn Stewart - Not my favorite book by Stewart, but a light and fun read. (B)

📺 Clarkson’s Farm Season 4 - This series continues to surprise me every year. Definitely worth watching! (A)

🎥 Fountain of Youth - Ooph, what a snoozefest. Give this one a skip. (C)

📺 Adults Season 1 - Fun from start to finish. Can’t wait for more of this. (A)

📚 The Counterfeit Candidate by Brian Klein - A little too outlandish for my taste. (B-)

🎥 Summer of 69 - Fun, light, breezy summer film. Good mindless fun. (A-)

📺 Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 - Continues to be an impressive and enjoyable docuseries. As someone who follows the team throughout the season, I was worried they wouldn’t do justice to Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer, but they covered it perfectly! (A)

🎥 28 Days Later (Rewatch) - The opening sequence of this film remains one of my favorites to this day. (A+)

🎥 28 Years Later - Feels completely different from either of its prequels. At first I found that a bit off-putting but the more I’ve had time to process it, the more i’ve appreciated that fact. Can’t wait for the next sequels! (A-)

🎥 F1: The Movie - I’m not a hardcore F1 fan, so I didn’t hate this as much as some others did. It was a decent summer blockbuster film. It would be a better film if it weren’t labelled F1. (B)

📺 We Were Liars Season 1 - Hadn’t read the book this was based on, and didn’t know anything about it going in. It was an enjoyable watch, but not too memorable. (B)

📺 Murderbot Season 1 - I’ve always been a massive fan of the book series and was concerned about how it would adapt into television. I thought they did a pretty impressive job for a hard-to-adapt book series! (A-)

🎮 Thronefall - I got into tower defense games back with Warcraft 3 and haven’t played many in the last decade. This was a fun re-entry into them. Provided many hours of mindless fun on the couch. (A)

📚 Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab - Possibly my favorite book of the year so far. I had the pleasure of attending a talk with V. E. Schwab about the book before I read it, which really enhanced the experience. If you’re a fan of fantasy books at all, give it a try! (A+)
