My reading in January was dominated entirely by finishing Wind and Truth. It was such a slog at times, so I was so happy to move on to reading other books in February! I made a great dent in watching through all the Oscar nominated films I missed too. Was very happy to see Anora win, it was my favorite of 2024!
📚 Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson - I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. It starts well, then meanders forever before finishing strong. It feels like Sanderson trapped himself in the literary structure of having a certain number of days to cover. I am happy that Sanderson is taking a break from the series for a while, but I am very excited to see where the universe leads from here! (B+)
🎥 Babygirl - What a fun and wild ride of a film. It’s just enjoyable from start to finish - as long as you lean into its weirdness. (A-)
🎥 Nickel Boys - Absolutely heartbreaking, phenomenal filmmaking. One of my favorites of 2024. (A+)
📚 Bad Luck and Trouble by Lee Child - Another fun light read in the Reacher series, in preparation for watching Reacher Season 2. (B)
📺 Reacher Season 2 - Similar to the book itself, light and fun. Nothing special. Good TV for a flight. (B)
📚 Chimera’s Fall by Glynn Stewart - It is incredible how often Stewart releases these books. Nice to just read one as they come out instead of marathoning my way through them! (A-)
📺 High Potential Season 1 - So great to see Kaitlin Olson get to lead her own show. She’s always been hilarious and crushes it. (A)
📺 Shoresy Season 4 - A spin-off from Letterkenny that has outgrown its original. It’s so much more heartfelt and tender in a special, weirdly Canadian way. (A)
📺 Unforgotten Season 6 - Didn’t grab me as much as the previous seasons did, but an alright continuation of the series. (B)
📺 Jury Duty Season 1 - Just a ridiculous and hilarious TV show with an original concept. Don’t read about it just go watch it. (A)
📺 On Call Season 1 - One of the most “American” police shows I’ve watched. Was thrilling and moved quick, but just was heavy on the copaganda.
📚 Jake’s Magical Market by J.R. Mathews - My first foray into LitRPG outside of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Good but didn’t click the same way for me that Carl did. (B)
🎥 Grand Theft Hamlet - Perfectly brings you back to what it was like to live through COVID19 in the most unique way. (A-)
🎥 September 5 - Watching a crisis happen from the perspective of the news team covering it, what a different way to experience a crisis. (A)
