Media Diet: December 2025

Hello 2026! I was looking through my post archives and I can’t believe i’ve been writing media diets for four years now without missing a month. I was hoping these would be the lead in to me writing more consistently about other topics, which hasn’t happened, but oh well!

The Little Drummer Girl Season 1 - I have no idea how I missed this back in 2018! One of my favorite John le Carré adaptations. (A)

The Narrow Road to the Deep North Season 1 - One of my favorite series of 2025. Intense to watch. (A)

Eternity - A film with so much potential but so poorly executed. Needed a lot of tightening up. (B)

A Murder in Time by Julie McElwain - Easy fun read but nothing special. (B)

Slow horses Season 2-5 - I don’t know why i’ve been procrastinating watching this for so long after watching the first season when it came out. Really enjoyed it from start to finish! Looking forward to the next season. (A-)

Midnight Run - A 90s classic I hadn’t ever watched. Silly and fun. Robert De Niro is great in it. (A-)

Sirens Season 1 - I expected something very different from this show. I still enjoyed it but it just felt like it could have been more. (B+)

Tron: Ares - Oh god this was miserable. Did not finish. (F)

A Man on the Inside Season 2 - Silly, easy, fun watching. Ted Danson is a treat and Mary Steenburgen was a perfect addition in season 2. (B+)

Night Agent Season 1 - Nothing special. Feels like the Netflix knock off of a cheap Amazon thriller show. (B-)

Caught Stealing - There was so much hype around this one that I had high expectations for it but it just didn’t completely click for me. (B+)

Shetland Season 10 - Not their best work it feels a bit like the show is running out of steam. (B-)

Blue Moon - Richard Linklater’s best film in the last few years bar none. Love seeing him work with Ethan Hawke yet again. Margaret Qualley’s best acting yet. (A+)

Moonbound by Robin Sloan - I had a hard time with the pacing here. Sections of the books I loved and others I was left struggling to get through. (B)

Exciting Times by Naoise Dolan - I’m a sucker for Irish millennial stories like this. Not as good as Salley Rooney’s best novels but I am excited to see what Naoise Dolan writes next! (A-)

The Other Half by Charlotte Vassell - Another easy fun read. Nothing special but I flew through it on vacation. (B+)

The Rainmaker Season 1 - Nowhere near as good as the book its based on. A lot of changes that just don’t work well. (B)

I Love LA Season 1 - What a fantastic show. All the actors are incredible. ONe of my favorite shows of the year. (A)

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor - What a fun mindless game! It ended up being my favorite game of 2025. Perfect for mindless times on the couch while watching some TV. (A)

Confessions of a Shopaholic - I am unsure if I saw this when it originally came out, but ooph. Not great. (C+)

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy - This on the other-hand was a perfect end to the Bridget Jones series! I’m far from the target audience and I’ve definitely missed at least one film in the series, but it hit just the right notes. (A)
